When a bond matures and stops earning interest, it is time to redeem it by taking the bond(s) to a local bank or the Bureau of the Fiscal Service. However, indorsement is not required to accept the funds therefore other forms of proof regarding lawful money redemption will be required in cases where the IRS sends an inquiry regarding those earnings.
