Can One Receive Unemployment Benefits Without a Social Security Number
If a worker is not a U.S. citizen and is applying for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits, the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) must verify that they are legally authorized to work in the United States. To determine how much in unemployment payments one may be eligible to receive, the state looks at the worker's past earning history. The base period is generally the first four of the last five calendar quarters prior to the claim being submitted. If a person removes their Social Security Number (SSN) from employer records then applies for unemployement benefits, they can still receive said benefits; however, with no taxable income the amount will eventually be determined for $0.
