Talk With A Human at IRS (Secret Shortcut)

When calling the IRS, one will be guided through an automated message system before a real, live agent picks up the phone to deal with an inquiry.
  1. Select language.
  2. Then press 2 for "Personal Income Tax".
  3. Then press 1 for "Form Tax History or Payment".
  4. Then press 3 for "All Other Questions".
  5. Then press 2 for "All Other Questons".
  6. When the system asks for a Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN), do NOT enter anything. Once the system will asks twice, another menu will become available.
  7. Then press 2 for "Personal or Individual Tax Questions".
  8. Then press 4 for "All Other Inquiries".
After all of this the system will finally put one through to a real, live, human agent! This is the secret to avoid those 1-4 hour wait times on the phone.
